Odds move because something happened. Predictions keeps the news beside the numbers in three places: the In the News page, the News Topics page and the news on every market and topic page. All of it comes from the 4Search news index, and it shows headlines the press published, not reporting by 4Search.

#In the News

In the News lists the markets whose subjects the news is naming most right now. For each subject, it shows one market, the odds on it and its latest headlines.

Open In the News

One box of the Predictions In the News page: the number of headlines about a subject today, the market with its odds, and the latest headlines

One box of the In the News page. The count says how many headlines named the subject; the market and its odds sit on the left, and the latest headlines on the right.

  1. 1How many headlines name the subject
  2. 2The market and its odds
  3. 3The latest headlines
  • The count at the top says how many headlines named the subject in the period, with the subject's name beside it. The counts are of headlines only.
  • The market shown is the one for that subject, as a card with its odds.
  • The headlines beside it are the latest ones, with their outlets and how long ago they were published. For the first eight subjects the page shows headlines directly. For the rest, the box links to the market's page, where they are listed.

The tabs at the top choose Last 24 hours or Last 7 days. The topic chips, headed All topics, narrow the page to one topic.

#The news on a market or topic page

  • A market's page has a The news box naming its subject, for example The news: recession, with up to a dozen headlines and a Search link. It also marks headlines as dots on the odds chart, and some markets have a Why it moved box. See Read a market's page.
  • A topic page has a news box for the topic, such as Sports news, with a link to more.

#News Topics

News Topics is a page of boxes, one for each subject prediction markets bet on, with a short description and links to narrower subjects. A box named Prediction Markets covers the business and regulation of betting on real-world events.

The Predictions News Topics page: a grid of boxes, one for each subject prediction markets bet on, each with a short description and links to its sub-subjects

News Topics. Each box is a subject; the chips inside it are narrower subjects.

  1. 1A subject: opens its news and markets
  2. 2Its narrower subjects

Select a subject to open its page. It shows The latest headlines on the subject, with Older › and ‹ Newer to page through them, the narrower subjects as chips and, beside the headlines, the odds on the markets that are about it.

#Common questions

Where does the news come from?

From the 4Search news index: headlines from many outlets, in English. Select a headline to open the outlet's article in a new tab.

Why does a market have no headlines?

Nothing recent named its subject. A new or niche market may have none.
